Kamilah, 3 Y/O Palms West Hospital

Kamilah is a sunny 3 y/o girl with a tiny smile that captures the hearts of everyone she meets. Kamilah has been battling Leukemia for 14 months which forced her mother to work part-time in order to care for her daughter. Recently, her Father moved out of the home, leaving Kamilah’s mother to now also be the primary financial provider. The emotional and financial challenges continue to increase as the mother juggles her daughter’s and family’s care, working part-time and gaining more education to improve her ability to provide basic human needs for her family.

Needs

Kamilah and her family need immediate help to pay for rent, food, utilities and gasoline.

Message from Social Worker, 9/15/14:

I would like to recommend Kamilah Cleary’s family for your advocacy Program. Kamilah Cleary is a 3 year old with known diagnosis of Pre-B Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL).
Kamilah is currently in maintenance therapy and doing very well medically. Kamiah’s Dad left her Mom during treatment so her Mom is now trying to care for her daughter on her own without the financial support her father had previously provided.
Mom has currently applied to a local Ultra Sound Tech Program so she can earn a degree which will make it possible for her to get a full time job as an Ultra Sound Technician so she will be able to financially support Kamilah and her older sister. Mom has already qualified for some financial aid money that will pay a large portion of her school costs; however, she will still need to come up with the rest of the cost for tuition that the financial aid does not cover. Mom is determined to be a role model to her girls to show them the importance of education and the satisfaction you get from working hard and providing for yourself.
They are currently staying in their home but the house is in foreclosure and there is a possibility that they may need to leave their home by the first of the year.
Mom currently has a car but it is in Dad’s name and he has threatened to take the car from her which will make it very difficult for Mom to bring Kamilah to treatment since they live in Clewiston and travel about 120 miles round trip to come to the hospital for treatment. Any assistance you can provide for this family to help with the enormous financial burden this Mom now is facing would be greatly appreciated.

Plea from Mom, 9/15/14:

Kamilah is a 3 years old. She was diagnosed on July 2013 with Leukemia. Kamilah is a very bright little girl. She is so brave. She is my youngest of two. Her sister is eight years old. This has been a very stressful and heartbreaking journey for all of us.
Several months ago her father walked out on us. He threatened to take the vehicle I use for transporting Kamilah to and from our daughter’s doctor visits. He is trying to take custody. Making life even harder for us. Since he was the one providing for our family. I wanted to just give up.
Since then, I have looked in my children’s eyes, and that gave me the strength to keep going. I’ve taken the next step to better myself and my children. I’ve applied to an ultrasound tech program to further my education and provide for my family. I am in need of financial assistance to help pay for tuition, regular household bills and basic needs.
