Letter from Hospital Social Worker:

Dear Jessica June Children’s Cancer Foundation,

I am writing to share Kenneth’s story. Kenneth was diagnosed with Leukemia in November 2019 while living in Honduras. After three chemotherapy cycles and many months of treatment, he relapsed in October 2023. His poor prognosis and limited resources available in Honduras, prompted his family to seek care in other countries, leaving their home and family behind, with the hope of being able to save him. Kenneth and his mother, Deisy, arrived in Miami with extremely limited resources, finances and no support systems.

In December 2023, Kenneth arrived at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital and has been under the care of Dr. Guillermo De Angulo since; he remains in active cancer treatment. Fortunately, the family has obtained lodging support through a friend who has been very welcoming; however, they need to also contribute to the home and cover their own expenses. Due to their displacement of almost 2 years, his mother hasn’t been able to work, and the family relies on the financial assistance sent by Kenneth’s father when he is able. Kenneth’s father is self-employed and has been caring for Kenneth’s sisters in Honduras, one of which has special needs.

Currently, the family’s greatest concern is being able to cover their basic expenses, including food, medical needs, and transportation. Your kindness and generosity are greatly appreciated.

Plea from Kenneth (child):

For Jessica June Children’s Cancer Foundation,

Hello, my name is Kenneth. I’m a boy from Honduras. We were very humble and happy in the environment we lived in back then, never imagining that life had bad news for me. I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on November 11, 2019.

Since then, our lives changed, taking an extremely difficult turn as we began to fight at the Mario Catarino Rivas Hospital in San Pedro Sula, receiving treatment there to regain my health. Those were very difficult years because the country didn’t have the healthcare resources I needed. I continued this fight with the bad news that my health took an even more drastic turn. In October 2023, I had a relapse, where the situation became even more grim. I received the news that in Honduras I no longer had the chance to regain my health because they didn’t have the necessary supplies.

My parents began knocking on doors, managing to bring me to the United States. Thank God I’m receiving treatment, but life is hard and difficult when you’re away from home. I’m asking for your helping hand and solidarity to continue this struggle we face with expenses. I pray to God that we can count on your valuable support to continue this difficult process. Especially so that our financial, mental, and emotional burdens may be less difficult.
