Ja’Kayla, 5 Y/O, alex’s place/Jackson Memorial Hospital
Ja’Kayla is a little girl with a big heart and dreams of becoming a doctor just like Doc McStuffins – from the Disney TV series about a girl who can “fix” toys, with the help of her favorite stuffed animal friends. On 10/15/14, Ja’Kayla’s parents were shocked to see a large lump on her lower back and took Ja’Kayla to their family doctor the next day. They were devastated to learn that Ja’Kayla had a large tumor growing on one of her kidneys that required emergency surgery (Wilms’ Tumor – Stage IV). After the surgery they received more bad news… the surgeon successfully removed the affected kidney but the cancer had already spread to Ja’Kayla’s abdomen and lungs.
Since then, progress has been made with Ja’Kayla’s rigorous chemotherapy program and most days she is in good spirits given the circumstances; however, her father has been unable to return to work fulltime given her healthcare requirements. This change in income has steadily driven this family into financial disaster.
Needs
Ja’Kayla and her family need immediate help to pay for rent, food and other basic needs.
