Cameron, 5 Y/O Palms West Hospital

Cameron is a very curious 5 y/o boy with a great sense of humor that was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma of the Spine (malignant tumors) in the Spring of 2013. Since then, given the special care that his aggressive cancer demands, Cameron’s mother has been only able to work part-time and Cameron, his young sister and mother have been forced to live with his grandparents. With grandpa’s financial support the family struggled to battle the cancer and sustain basic human needs.
In November of 2013, grandpa lost his job. This change in the total family income dramatically increase their emotional and financial stress. Good progress has been made with Cameron’s rigorous chemotherapy and maintenance program but the loss in income and lack of employment opportunities for Cameron’s grandparents has created a financial and emotional crisis for the entire family.

Needs

Cameron and his family need immediate help to pay for rent, food and utilities.

Message from Social Worker, 10/15/14:

I would like to recommend Cameron Trower’s family for your advocacy Program. Cameron is a 5 year old with known diagnosis of Rhabdomyosarcoma of the Spine.

Cameron just completed chemotherapy and is now following up monthly to ensure he remains cancer free. Cameron’s Mom, Crystal is working and also attending school to earn her GED. Since Cameron was diagnosed Crystal was forced to move in with her parents so she could continue to work part-time and attend school and have Cameron’s Grandparents to help provide the additional financial support they needed during Cameron’s treatment and frequent hospitalizations. Cameron’s Grandfather provided the majority of the financial support for the family while Cameron’s Grandmother assisted Mom care for Cameron and his older sister, Ariella. However, due to the frequent trips to the hospital during treatment the only having one car Grandpa lost his job. Currently, Crystal is still working part-time and attending school so she can complete her GED so she will be able to provide for her family. Both of Cameron’s Grandparents are also looking for work to help provide for the family however, they have been unable to secure employment which has resulted in the current financial crisis they find themselves in now. They could use some assistance with Rent and Basic needs such as assistance to pay utilities.
Any assistance you can provide for this family to help with the enormous financial burden they are now is facing would be greatly appreciated. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you should need any further information.

Plea from Mom, 10/15/14:

Cameron was diagnosed, at age 3 1/2, with Rhabdomyosarcoma on April 14, 2013. What a punch in the gut that was! So instead of Cameron, my little daughter Ariella and I moving out from my mom’s place, we had to stay at home with my mom and dad (Cameron’s grandma and grandpa).
At that time in 2013, grandpa was the main breadwinner of the entire family. I was working and was able to keep my job-with reduced hours, thanks in part to grandma being able to stay at home with Cam. Taking turns between myself and grandma at home and in the hospital, we have found that our family is stronger than we could have ever imagined.
Fast forward seven months to November of 2013. At that time, grandpa lost his main source of income due to the fact that with only one running vehicle, and the numerous trips to the doctor and/or the hospital, he was unable to keep up with the demands that needed to be kept. Since then, we, as a family have found ourselves in a financial bind. I still have my same job, grandma and grandpa are both actively seeking employment, but as of now, have had no luck.
I am doing the best I can to support my family and be the best mommy I can to Cameron and Ariella. I am also studying for my GED so that we, as a family, can move onward and upward from this thing called cancer. That is why, at this time, we are asking for a little bit of assistance with our expenses. Our rent has been the hardest for us to cover most often.
