Brian, 7-year-old – Nicklaus Children’s Hospital
Brian started his cancer struggles at the tender age of two, when he was diagnosed with leukemia. At the time, he lived in Cuba. During the initial treatment face, he developed pneumonia and doctors had to insert a breathing tube. Immediately after, Brian developed encephalitis (an inflammation of the brain). For months, he was unable to talk and walk, and the left side of his body became completely paralyzed.
Although Brian reached remission, a few years later, he relapsed. Due to lack of resources in Cuba, he could not receive a bone marrow transplant he so desperately needed. He alternatively received chemotherapy and limited radiation. Unfortunately, in Cuba, they were not able to complete his full treatment. Additionally, Brian lost most of his vision due to continuous brain inflammation.
Fortunately, Brian and his family were able to move to the U.S. February 2023. He has responded well to his lifesaving treatment and is now stable. Despite the many challenges, Brian is a happy and fun child who enjoys playing with his toys and younger siblings.
Needs
Brian and his family need financial support to help pay their $1,500 monthly rent.
